Metacognitive skills are skills needed by individuals to determine and understand appropriate ways of learning so as to encourage their ability to think at a higher level. Metacognitive skills are trained and improved through a learning process that emphasizes students' participation and activeness in constructing knowledge. One effort that can be made to improve students' cognitive skills is to apply methods of Research-based learning (RBL). This research specifically aims to determine the effect of implementing RBL on students' metacognitive skills in growth and development material in Biology lessons. The method used in this research is as if they had experienced with research design pretest-posttest nonequivalent group design. Determination of samples using cluster random sampling with balanced class abilities based on the paired F test. The research instrument is a question that contains indicators of metacognitive skills planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Data analysis used the ANCOVA test. The research results show that Research-based learning has a significant influence on students' metacognitive skills in growth and development material.
