This research aims to identify the critics of Michael Schumacher's character from the biography book, Michael Schumacher: The Edge of Greatness, based on their judgment. It aims to identify the types of judgment used by writers, drivers, and working partners to criticize Michael Schumacher’s character and how the critics develop from orientation, series of events, and resolution.
This research uses descriptive qualitative design with a single-embedded case study. The source of the data is the judgment produced by the writer of the book, driver, and working partner of Michael Schumacher. The data were collected in relation to the genre analysis and appraisal theory, especially judgment. We examined the data using four steps of analysis: domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis.
This research shows that in each stage—orientation, a series of events, and resolution—the subcategories of judgment used to criticize Michael’s character and the number of negative criticisms against him were reduced
