Hanafi Yusuf Prayogi, 2025. Translating Cultural Terms in the Novel Dracula by Bram Stoker at Anak Hebat Indonesia. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret.

The final report describes the activities during the internship program conducted at Anak Hebat Indonesia. Anak Hebat Indonesia is a publishing and printing company established in 2016. Currently, Anak Hebat Indonesia has successfully published thousands of books in various genres and has marketed its products throughout the country. For this reason, I chose Anak Hebat Indonesia as my internship place. The internship program started on January 20, 2025 until March 15, 2025. During the internship period, I translated a novel entitled Dracula by Bram Stoker. In translating the novel, I applied three translation process including analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. In the analyzing process, I found three cultural term categories, namely foreign terms, religious terms, and mythological terms, for examples “diligence” and “leiter-wagon” from foreign terms category, “crossed” and “crucifix” from religious terms category, “barguests and bogles” and “were-wolves” from mythological terms category. I found challenges in understanding the meaning of the cultural terms. To overcome these challenges, I first tried to understand the context and meaning of the source text. After that, I did some research to find out the explanations and meanings of the terms from several sources. In the transferring process, I translated the terms that have been analyzed into the target language.  In the last process, restructuring process, I restructured the translated sentences to make them easier to understand for the readers. Apart from translating novel Dracula, I also had additional activities such as taking tests, weekly mentoring, and editing my fellow interns' translated manuscripts. By participating in this internship program, I gained many benefits such as increasing my knowledge and skills in translation. Moreover, I also gained new experience by contributing directly to real projects provided by Anak Hebat Indonesia. Therefore, this internship program helped me prepare for entering the world of industry in the future.
