Rasti Rahmaputri, 2025. Creating and Translating a Promotional Article
Entitled New Zealand: A Hidden Paradise for Tourists at Whatravel. English
Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret of Surakarta.
This internship report presents the implementation of the Student Internship Course (KMM), which was conducted online at Whatravel, Jakarta, from February 3 to March 28, 2025. The objective of my internship was to gain real-world work experience at Whatravel, especially in the fields of copywriting and translation, while applying English skills in a professional environment. It also offered insights into the dynamics of working in a start-up company in travel. My main activities included writing and translating promotional articles for destinations in eight countries, such as Japan, New Zealand, and Africa. The copywriting aimed to attract the target audience by using strategies from Belch & Belch (2021), including storytelling, emotional appeal, and call-to-action techniques. Therefore, translating into Indonesian aimed to make it easier for the Indonesian target audience to understand the content, using translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002), such as amplification and borrowing. The challenges were doing the tasks of how to write interesting copywriting in articles and translating unfamiliar terms. I used some tools to help with the tasks, for example, Grammarly, Google, DeepL, and AI (Artificial Intelligence). My additional tasks involved editing the company's profile, namely editing sentences to make them readable and translating them into Indonesian, and also making a storyline destination for Instagram reels. This internship improved my skills in writing, translation, communication, and problem-solving. It also highlighted that copywriting and translation need to be critical and creative in conveying the message effectively, which includes how to write well for the target audience and how to translate for easy understanding.
