This
thesis explores the clash of two cultures in “Trapped” through three out of six
cultural dimensions of Hofstede, which are Power Distance, Individualism vs.
Collectivism, and Uncertainty Avoidance. From the point of view of the main
character, these dimensions show how cultural differences can play a huge role
in determining one’s survival rate. The collision between two cultures and the
choices made by the characters serve as an important aspect of this thesis.
With a greater emphasis on the different levels of Uncertainty Avoidance
between two countries and two timelines, the outcome of the main character's
life is highly determined by the advantages he gets. This thesis emphasises the
reconstruction of history influenced by cultural differences brought by the
main character.
