The dynamics of conversations in a relationship are frequently used in movie narratives as an engaging point to explore complex socio-pragmatics issues. This research aims to examine the types and use of politeness strategies employed by Elizabeth and Darcy in each stage of the Pride and Prejudice (2005) movie, and how these strategies affect the relationships between the two main protagonists, revealing the unique characteristics of their communication styles. This research utilized Brown and Levinson’s framework of politeness strategies throughout the movie, along with an explanation of the sociocultural factors influencing the use of politeness strategies. A qualitative descriptive analysis method is employed to provide detailed findings. This study revealed that both Elizabeth and Darcy employed indirect politeness strategies towards each other dominantly, especially during the complication stage. Their social distance and different nature, which signal unfamiliarity, are the main factors of the dominant use of negative politeness. This study highlighted how socio-pragmatics factors can affect the relationships between Elizabeth and Darcy.
