ABSTRAK Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang Studi penambahan sifat antibakteri kitosan dan komposit kitosan-Ag dalam proses daur ulang limbah kemasan polipropilen (PP). Dalam penelitian ini telah diteliti daya hambat kitosan dan logam Ag dalam biokomposit pp:kitosan dan pp:kitosan-Ag terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri E.Coli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan sifat antibakteri kitosan ke dalam polimer limbah kemasan polipropilen secara reaktif tidak memberikan daya hambat terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri E.Coli. Semakin besar konsentrasi kitosan, menurunkan daya hambat terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri E. coli. Penambahan logam Ag ke dalam biokomposit pp:kitosan dapat meningkatkan daya hambat terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri E. Coli. Kata kunci : kitosan, Ag, limbah kemasan PP, biokomposit, antibakteri ABSTRACT The study of additional antibacterial characteristic of chitosan and chitosan-Ag composite in recycled processing of polypropylene packaging waste have been conducted. This research investigated antibacterial activity of chitosan and silver (Ag) in PP:chitosan and PP:chitosan-Ag biocomposite. The antibacterial activity was determined against E.Coli. The results showed that additional antibacterial of shrimp’s shell chitosan into polymers of polypropylene packaging waste reactively didn’t decrease bacterial growth. Bacterial growth of E.Coli was greater at higher chitosan concentration. While, addition of silver in to the PP:kitosan biocomposite had increased antibacterial activity.
