Quality is an important factor in a company, both in product and service
produced. Considering the quality problem, the final project research was taken
place in PT. Djitoe Indonesian Tobacco Coy in production division of tangan
hijau cigarette. The research aims to find out the defects level of product based on
the p chart as well as to identify the factor causing the product defect.
This study was done using observation and direct interview with the
concerned personnel, recording data required and literary study or collecting data
from the article, reference and other information sources relevant to the research.
In addition, the method of analysis to find out the product defect level was also
used, that is, by using p chart, developing pareto chart as well as developing the
causal chart to find out the cause of product damage.
The data obtained from the research conducted in PT. Djitoe Indonesian
Tobacco Coy was the data on production of 2008 and data on production defect
type of 2008. From the analysis on p chart, it can be found that the means
proportion of defect (CL) is 0.003405, upper control limit (UCL) is 0.003495243
and lower control limit (LCL) 0.003314757, besides, it can also be found the
defect proportion exceeding control limit. The defect proportion exceeding control
limit occurs in January, July, September and October. The sufficiently significant
product damage occurs in July due to the many folding and cutting employees
absent, so that many employees with good performance should roll and cut the
cigarette more than usual. Such condition makes the employees exhaustion so that
many products are damaged. To describe the frequency of defects occurring, the
pareto chart analysis was used. With this chart, the sequence of product defect
type can be found from the largest to the smallest. Analysis on causal chart was
used to find out the cause of product damage. The analysis on causal chart
identifies the factors causing the product damage including equipment,
material/raw material, environment, work method and human resource factors.
Considering the analyses conducted, it can be concluded that the product
damage results from many factors: equipment, material/raw material,
environment, work method and human resource. Those factors lead to the
proportion of product damage exceeding the control limit. Those problem can be
coped with by repairing the factors resulting in the product damage, so that the
product damage can be minimized.
