The Strategy Of Teaching English In Grade VII Of SMP Negeri 14 Surakarta

This final project was written based on my job training activity which had been conducted at SMPN Negeri 14 Surakarta. This final project report aims to describe the activities in teaching and learning English and find out the difficulties during the job training in the VII grade of SMP Negeri 14 Surakarta. I conducted the job training for a month since 31 January until 28 February 2011. In the first week, I conducted school observation to collect the data and observed the way the teacher taught the students. Next three weeks, I taught the seventh grade students in class D, E, and F based on the lesson plan which had been made. In teaching learning activity, I allocated the time into three parts, they were pre-activity, while-activity, post-activity. Every part had different activities that should be followed by the students. Pre-activity was the beginning activity to open the class which contained of greeting, asking for roll, giving motivation, reviewing last material, and brainstorming. While-activity was the prime time to deliver the new material which contained of modeling, joint construction, and independent construction. Post-activity was the last activity to evaluate the students’ understanding during teaching learning activity which contained of conclusion, post-test, and closing. During the process of teaching learning activity, I faced some problems in controlling the students’ condition, lacking of time and material. I also presented the solutions to solve the problems.
