Teaching process of writing recount text for 8th grader in SMP Negeri 5 Karanganyar

This project report is written based on the writer’s job training as an English teacher in SMP Negeri 5 Karanganyar which was done for four weeks. The objective of this report is to describe the teaching process of writing recount text, the problems occurring in the teaching process and the solutions to the problems. Before the job training, the writer did class observation to get the information about the school. During the job training, the writer did a simple discussion with the English teacher to know the teaching and learning process in the class. In the teaching process of writing recount text, the writer used four steps; building knowledge of the field, modeling of the text, joint construction of the text and independent construction of the text. In BKOF, the writer tried to make the students ready to accept the material by showing some pictures related to the modeling text. In modeling of the text, the writer gave a model of recount text and then explained the simple past tense and the generic structure of the text. In the joint construction of the text, the writer asked the students to arrange the jumbled paragraph based on the provided pictures in group. In the last step, independent construction of the text, the writer asked the students to make a simple recount text based on their own experience. In the end of the teaching and learning, the students were able to make a simple recount text though some of them still had some problems in grammatical skill, lack of vocabulary, and low motivation in learning English.
