Relation between Intensity of Accessing Social Networking Site and Ability of Social Interaction on Medical Student 2011 Faculty of Medicine UNS Objective: To determine the relation between intensity of accessing social networking site and the ability of social interaction on adolescents. The hypothesis proposed that there is a significant negative relation between intensity of accessing social networking site and the ability of social interaction on adolescents. Method: This study is an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. The subjects were first grade students of the Faculty of Medicine UNS. Purposive sampling technique was used. The data were obtained from three types of questionnaires, including L-MMPI Questionnaire, Intensity of Accessing Social Networking Sites Questionnaire, Social Interaction Ability Questionnaire. T-test was used for statistical analysis. Result: The total 30 students consisted of 14 students with moderate scores of social interaction and 16 students with high scores of social interaction. Group of students with moderate scores have a mean score of 72.00 and SD of 22.504.Whereas, on the group of students with high scores the mean score is 33.20 and SD of 12.735. The relationship between the intensity of accessing social networking sites with social interactions yield a value of significance (p = 0.000). Conclusion: There is anegative relationship that statistically significant between the intensity of accessing social networking sites with the ability of social interaction (p = 0.046). Scores of social interaction in students who are low or moderate in intensity accessing social networking sites is higher when compared with students classified as high in intensity accessing social networking sites.
