his research was aimed at (1) improving students’ writing ability using modelled writing technique and (2) knowing the effectiveness of modelled writing technique towards the teaching of writing. The writing pre-test was held before the research and the results showed that the students’ mean score of writing pretest was 68,43. It was below the Minimum Standard Criterion or KKM. The scoring was based on the writing rubric which consists of the content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. It was found out that this condition was caused by the lack of vocabulary, grammar, and writing practice, the difficulty in expressing ideas, and unsuitable teaching technique. As a result, the researcher used modelled writing technique to improve the students’ writing ability, especially in writing descriptive texts. The research was a Classroom Action Research which was conducted at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri Sragen Bilingual Boarding School. The number of the students were 28 students and all of them are male. The research was done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of five meetings. The staged procedures of the research consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, classroom observation, tests, and field notes. The technique of analyzing the data was Contrast Comparative Method. The observation was done during the teaching learning process. Interview was given to the students before and after the implementation of modelled writing technique. The tests were in the form of pre-test and post-test. The questionnaire was given at the beginning and at the end of the implementation of modelled writing technique. The result of the research showed that modelled writing technique improved the students’ writing ability and was effective in teaching writing. It could be seen from the increasing of students’ score, motivation, and interest. Besides, from the collected data, the students had better progress from cycle one to next cycle. The mean of pre-test was 68,43, while the mean of post-test of cycle one was 78,81 and cycle two was 82,38. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the use of modelled writing technique really improved the students’ achievement in learning English especially in writing and was effective towards the teaching of writing.
