Teaching Reading to the 8th Graders of Junior High School Students of SMP ISLAM DIPONEGORO Surakarta FINAL PROJECT

ABSTRACT The final project is written based on the job training done in the SMP ISLAM DIPONEGORO Surakarta. The objectives of the final project are to describe the process of teaching reading to the 8th Graders of Junior High School of SMP ISLAM DIPONEGORO Surakarta, to identify the problems in the teaching reading to the 8th Graders of Junior High School of SMP ISLAM DIPONEGORO Surakarta and to provide the solutions to the problems in the teaching reading to the 8th Graders of Junior High School of SMP ISLAM DIPONEGORO Surakarta. There are two methods used in teaching reading activity namely Grammar Translation Method and Direct method. The material used by the writer to teach was taken from the school books and the internet. The problems faced by the writer are Linguistic problems: vocabulary and non linguistic problem: handling the student, the students’ motivation. To solve the problems, the students should improve their English skill especially increase their vocabulary by reading books in the library or others. The writer also tried to motivate them who had lack motivation to learn English in order to make them more enthusiastic with the lesson.
