Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension Using Mood, Understand, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, And Review (Murder) Technique (A Classroom Action Research At The Eleventh Grade Of Sma Negeri 2 Karanganyar In The Academic Year Of 2011/2012)

This Study Aims To Describe (1) How Can Murder Technique Improve
Students’ Reading Comprehension Of Eleventh Grade At Sma Negeri 2 Karanganyar
In The Academic Year Of 2011/2012; And (2) What May Happen In The Class When
Murder Technique Is Implemented In The Classroom.
This Research Was From April Until May 2012 Through Classroom Action
Research. The Subject Of The Research Was The Students Of Class Xi Ipa 2. There
Were 40 Students Consisting Of 17 Boys And 23 Girls. In This Research, The
Researcher Taught Reading By Using Murder Technique. The Technique Consists Of
Six Steps, Namely Mood, Understand, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, And Review. The
Students Works In Pair To Comprehend A Text. The Procedure Of This Research
Consisted Of Planning, Action, Observation, And Reflection. The Research Was
Conducted In Two Cycles.
The Data Of This Research Are Qualitative And Quantitative Ones. The
Qualitative Data Were Collected Through Interview, Observation, Questionnaire, And
Pothograph. The Quantitative Data Were Collected Through Test. Quantitative Data
Were Obtained From The Students’ Score Of Pre- Test And Post- Test And Analyzed By
Descrptive Statistics.
The Result Of The Research Shows That: (1) Murder Technique Could
Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension, (2) The Improvement Of The Students’
Reading Comprehension Could Be Seen In The Mean Scores In Pre-Test And Post-Test.
The Mean Score Of Pre-Test (61.35) And Improved To 71.95 In Post-Test 1 And Also
Improved To 78.08 In Post-Test 2. The Last Mean Score Is Higher Than Kkm Which
Is 75.00. Related To The Classroom Climate; (1) The Students Were More Active; (2)
The Motivation And Confidence Improved; (3) The Students Enjoyed Following
Reading Class; (4) They Had More Courage To Share Their Ideas To Their Partner And
They Could Collaborate With Others; (5) The Use Of Murder Technique Made The
Students More Communicative And Cooperative In The Reading Class. They Could
Discuss The Content Of The Text With Their Friend.
