Facilitating Students’ Metacognitive Reading Strategy To Enhance Their National Test-Oriented Reading Comprehension (A Study Of Action Research At The Twelfth Grade Students Of Smk Mandiri Pontianak In The Academic Year 2012/ 2013)

The Aims Of This Thesis Are To: (1) Reveal Metacognitive Reading Strategy Can Enhance National Test- Oriented Reading Comprehension And The Extent Of Using Metacognitive Reading Strategy Can Enhance National Test- Oriented Reading Comprehension; And (2) Identify The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Metacognitive Reading Strategy In This Study. This Research Was An Action Research Which Covered 3 Cycles. The Procedure Of The Research Consists Of Identifying The Problem, Planning The Action, Implementing The Action, Observing The Action, And Reflecting The Result Of The Research. The Research Was Conducted In Smk Mandiri Pontianak From September To November 2012. The Subject Of The Research Was The Twelfth Year Students Of Smk Mandiri Pontianak, Class Xii Accountancy 1. This Research Employed The Qualitative Data And Quantitative Data Collecting. Observing, Distributing Questionnaires, Interviewing Were Executed To Gain Qualitative Data, While The Quantitative Data Were Obtained Through Pre-Test, Post-Test 1, Post- Test 2, And Post- Test 3. To Analyze Qualitative Data, It Used Constant Comparative Method. It Consists Of Four Steps: (1) Comparing Incidents Applicable To Each Category; (2) Integrating Categories And Their Properties; (3) Delimiting The Theory; (4) Writing The Theory. Meanwhile, To Analyze Quantitative Data, It Employed Descriptive Statistic. The Result Of The Research Shows That Facilitating Students’ Mrs Can: (1) Enhance Their National Test-Oriented Reading Comprehension. The Improvement On Students’ Reading Comprehension Included; (A) Students Are Able To Find Main Idea; (B) Students Are Able To Find Explicit And Implicit Information; (C) Students Are Able To Find Reference; (D) Students Are Able To Find Meaning Of Words. In Addition, The Improvement Also Happens To The Scores. The Mean Scores Increases From 47.33 In The Pre Test, 51.94 In The Post Test 1, 70.71 In The Post Test 2, And 75.69 In The Post Test 3. The Mean Score Of Reading Comprehension Is Higher Than Kkm Of This School Which Is 65. Besides That; (2) There Are Some Strengths Of Mrs: (2a) Mrs Helps Students To Understand The Text Given More Easily And Quickly, Especially To Find Main Idea, Explicit Information, Implicit Information, Reference And The Meaning Of Words; (2b) Mrs Helps Students To Monitor Their Thinking While Reading; (2c) Mrs Helps Students To Be Independent Learner; (2d) Mrs Helps Students To Use Appropriate Strategies In Solving Reading Problems; (2e) Mrs Helps Students To Stop Their Dependency Of Using Dictionary. Anyhow, (3) There Are Some Weaknesses Teaching Reading By Using Mrs; (3a) The Teacher Cannot Control The Process Of Students’ Thinking; (3b) Mrs Takes Long Time To Apply To The New Strategic Reader. Based On The Result Of The Research, It Can Be Concluded That Students’ Reading Comprehension Could Be Enhanced By The Facilitation Of Students’ Mrs Itself. It Is Important For Teachers To Understand The Suitable Method To Improve The Students’ Motivation In Learning Reading Because It Is The Key Of Success In Teaching Learning Process. The Use Of Mrs Has Proven To Be An Appropriate Strategy In Teaching Learning Reading Comprehension, Especially National Test-Oriented Reading Comprehension. So Teachers Can Use This Strategy In Their Class, Especially For Class Xii That Will Face National Test. Before Implementing The Strategy, Teachers Should Explain How To Do The Steps Clearly. The Teachers Must Guide The Students Patiently. Explain One By One The Steps And The Activities That Can Help Students To Find Main Idea, Explicit Information, Implicit Information, Reference And Meaning Of Words
