The Effectiveness Of Task-Based Instruction To Teach Listening Viewed From The Students’ Interest An Experimental Study At The Tenth Graders Of Sma Tmi Roudlatul Qur’an In The Academic Year Of 2012/2013

The objectives of the research are to examine whether: (1) Task-Based Instruction is more effective than Visual Supported Question to teach listening at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an West Metro, in the academic year of 2012/2013; (2) The students having high interest have better listening comprehension than those having low interest at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an West Metro, in the academic year of 2012/2013; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and students’ interest in teaching listening at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an West Metro, in the academic year of 2012/2013. This The research was an experimental research conducted at the tenth graders at SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur'an West Metro in the academic year of 2012/2013, there were about 4 classes consisting of 125 students, which are divided into class A until class D. The samples of the research were two classes; XB consisting of 32 students as an experimental class and XD consisting of 32 students as a control class. The sampling technique that was used in this research was cluster random sampling. The data was analyzed by using Multifactor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test of 2x2 and Tukey test. Based on the result of the research the writer got some research finding as follows; (1) Task-Based Instruction is more effective than Visual Supported Question to teach listening at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an; (2) The students having high interest have better listening comprehension than that of those having low interest at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an; and (3) There is an interaction between teaching techniques and students’ interest in learning listening comprehension at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an. Referring to the research findings, it can be concluded that Task-Based Instruction is an effective technique to teach listening at the tenth graders of SMA TMI Roudlatul Qur’an. The research also shows that the implementation of two different techniques for teaching listening gives the different learning result to the students having high interest. Finally English teachers are recommended to apply both Task-Based Instruction and Visual Supported Question interchangeably in teaching listening in the class.
