This research is intended to reveal whether: (1) Side by Side is more effective than Video in teaching listening ability; (2) students who have high intelligence have better listening ability than those who have low intelligence; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching media and intelligence in teaching listening. The research is an experimental study. There are two kinds of teaching media used in this research: Side by Side and video. The intelligence as an attribute variable is divided into high and low. This research was conducted in SMKN 1 Klaten. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Klaten in the academic year of 2012/2013. The writer used random sampling to get 2 classes. Each class consists of 36 students. The techniques of collecting the data were document and a test (a listening test). The listening test consisted of 50 items. After the tryout was conducted, there were 43 valid and reliable items. There were 40 items applied as the listening test. The data of the listening test were analyzed by multifactor analysis of variance 2 x 2. Then, it was analyzed by using Tukey test to know the difference between columns, rows, and cells. In order to determine which teaching media are more effective, the research compares the means among the variables. Based on the result of inferential analysis of the data, this research yielded: (1) Side by Side is more effective than Video for teaching listening to the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Klaten in the academic year of 2012/2013; (2) The students who have high intelligence have better listening ability than the stduents who have low intelligence; and (3) There is interaction between teaching media and students’ intelligence in teaching listening. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Side by Side Media is more effective than Video Media for teaching listening to the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Klaten the academic year of 2012/2013. Therefore, it is recommended that: (1) teachers apply SBS to teach listening; (2) teachers give information to the students to enrich insight and get better learning to improve their listening ability; and (3) future researchers can use this research as a starting point and also as a reference for the future research.
