The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out whether Send-AProblem method is more effective than Audio-lingual method to teach speaking to the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year of 2012/2013; (2) to find out whether the students having high self-actualization have better speaking skill than those having low self-actualization; and (3) to find out whether there is an interaction between teaching methods and selfactualization in teaching speaking to the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year of 2012/2013. This experimental study was conducted at SMAN 2 Surakarta in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The population was the tenth grade students who were selected through cluster random sampling. The samples are X-3 as experimental class was taught using Send-A-Problem method and X-2 as control class was taught using Audio-lingual method. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high and low self-actualization). The instruments of collecting data were speaking test and questionnaire. Then, the data were analyzed using multifactor analysis of ANOVA 2x2 and Tukey test. The research findings show that: (1) Send-A-Problem method is more effective than Audio-lingual method in teaching speaking; (2) The students having high self-actualization have better speaking skill than the students having low self-actualization; and (3) There is an interaction between teaching methods and students’ self-actualization for teaching speaking. Based on the research findings, in general it can be concluded that Send- A-Problem method is an effective method to teach speaking. By using Send-AProblem method the students can enhance their speaking skill. Send-A-Problem method is effective for the students who have high self-actualization. The teacher is suggested to improve the students’ self-actualization. Then, the effectiveness of the method is influenced by the level of the students’ self-actualization. As a result, the teaching method and students’ self-actualization have important role in teaching and learning process.
