Salam fruit (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp.) is one of the potential plants to be used as a natural colorant because it contains anthocyanin. This research is an experimental study to formulate lipstick from natural colorant which contained in salam fruit. Lipstick formula consisted of components such as castor oil, cera alba, lanolin, carnauba wax, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, nipagin, strawberry perfume, and addition of salam fruit extract as colorant with of 10%, 15% and 20% concentrations. Testing to product included physical and chemistry stability test such as stability of shape, color and odor changes for 30 days storage at room temperature, homogenity, pH, smear test, melting point, irritation test and hedonic test. Formulation of lipstick using colorant of salam fruit extract showed that products were stable for 30 days, easily applied with smooth color, pH ranged from 4.65 to 6.70, melting point in 54-57ºC, and did not cause irritation. The preferred product was product F3 with 15% concentration colorant of salam fruit extract. Therefore, it can be concluded that salam fruit extract can be used or stable as colorant in formulation of lipstick and it is safe to use.
