Using games in teaching speaking to the fifth grade in SDN 01 Tegalgede Karanganyar

This final project report was compiled based on the job training done by the writer as an English teacher in SDN 01 Tegalgede, starting from February 4th, 2013 until March 16th, 2013. The objectives of this report are to describe the process of teaching English speaking by using games, to describe the using games and to reveal the difficulties and the solutions to the difficulties faced in teaching English-speaking by using games. The process of teaching and learning English speaking to the fifth grade students of SDN 01 Tegalgede consists of three steps. They were pre-teaching (greeting and warming up), main teaching (presentation and production), and post-teaching (reviewing the materials and giving homework). In teaching English speaking, several games were applied as a technique to teach the students, namely „pass the message?, „call his or her name?, „move the ball?, and guessing game. Based on the discussion, using games can make the students enthusiastic and interested in joining the lesson. Games could encourage them to speak up with confidence. The writer encountered several difficulties during the teaching process of English-speaking to the fifth grade students of SDN 01 Tegalgede. The difficulties were pronunciation, grammatical errors, class management, and inappropriate time and place. To overcome the difficulties, the students were asked to repeat the words frequently until they pronounced the words correctly, the students were reminded about the sentence?s pattern by giving similar example, the students were asked to sit down and were given advice, and the students were asked to sing a song and play a game.
