This final project report has been written based on the job training done from 12 February until 4 March, 2013 at Puro Mangkunegaran, one of the palaces in Surakarta. The objectives of this final report are to describe the roles and responsibilities of local guides in Puro Mangkunegaran, and to identify the constraints the local guides have and how they overcome them. This report focuses on the roles and responsibilities of local tourist guides. It is expected to be able to give clear understanding about the roles and responsibilities of local guides in Puro Mangkunegaran. The conclusion is that local guides in Mangkunegaran have several roles and responsibilities. Local guides have two major jobs, the job concerning to the tourists and the office. However, the local guides also have several problems. They are mastering language, presenting monotonous presentation, handling tourists in group and being undisciplined. To overcome that, the solutions are taking language course, making improvisation, using a microphone, and giving a punishment. 10
