The main objectives of the research are to identify whether: (1) Cognitive Strategy Instruction in Writing (CSIW) is more effective than Think-Pair-Share (TPS) for teaching writing of the Second Grade of SMPN 2 Madiun in the Academic Year of 2012/2013; (2) The students who have high creativity have better writing ability than those who have low creativity; and (3) There is an interaction between the teaching strategies and the students? creativity in teaching writing of the Second Grade of SMPN 2 Madiun in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The experimental method was employed in this research. The population of the research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Madiun in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The sample in the research was two classes covering 30 students of VIIIA as the experimental class and 30 students of VIIIC as the control class. The research instruments consist of an adapted Munandar?s Verbal Creativity Test and writing test which was designed by the researcher. Before the instruments were used, a try out was done to know readability of the instrument. After treatment was done in eight meetings, the researcher conducted a post-test to get the research data. After gaining the research data, the researcher analyzed the data in terms of their frequency distribution, normality of the sample distribution, and data homogeneity. Then, the researcher used ANOVA test (multifactor analysis of variance) and TUKEY test to test the research hypotheses. Referring to the summary of multifactor analysis of variance, it can be concluded that: (1) the use of CSIW is more effective than TPS to teach writing for the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Madiun; (2) the students who have high creativity have better writing ability than those who have low creativity for the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Madiun; (3) there is an interaction between teaching strategies and students? creativity for teaching writing. The effect of teaching strategies on the students? writing ability depends on the students? creativity for the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Madiun. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that generally Cognitive Strategy Instruction in Writing is an effective strategy to teach writing for the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Madiun in the academic year 2012/2013. So, CSIW can be implemented effectively in an inclusive setting with overall good results.
