The Potentials Of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat As Cultural Tourist Attraction

This final project report is written based the job training performed in Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat for one month, starting on January 31th until February 28th, 2012. The aims of this final project report are to describe the cultural and architectural buildings of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat,to describe the events of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat, and to describe the promotion strategies of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat as cultural tourist attraction. The result showed that the ancient buildings of the palace, which are still maintained and kept in originality until now, are the potentials of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat to attract tourists; they are divided into five areas such as front complex of the palace, Sitihinggil area, Cart Museum, Museum, and Karaton/Palace. Besides, the other potentials are the cultural events that are still preserved by royal family and the society as the custom and the tradition of the ancestor in the past. During the job training, the cultural events that attracted tourists are Sekaten, Gunungan Ceremony, Jamasan, Kirab 1 Suro, and Wayangan (shadow puppet performance).Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat has three promotion strategies which are; promoting tourist attraction, holding cultural events, and promoting through guiding. Those three strategies are potentials to attract tourist’s curiosity to visit karaton. Hopefully, this final project report can be a reference for the readers to know about the potentials of Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat as cultural tourist attraction in Solo.
