The researcher chooses this topic because it is interesting to understand what speaker truly means behind his or her utterances. Pragmatics Approach is used in this research. The researcher employs Grice’s theory on Cooperative Principles which includes maxims and Flouting of the Maxims. This research uses the movie “Scream” and its film script as the source of data. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique, in which the data displayed in this research are the data which contains flouting of the maxim and which are uttered by the murderers only. This research is aimed to describe how flouting of maxim can be used by the murderers in delivering their implicatures. This research shows that the murderers flout 4 individual maxims. Maxim of quality is flouted when the murderers say what they believe to be false and for which they lack adequate evidence. Maxim of quantity is flouted when they do not make their contribution as informative as is required. Maxim of manner is flouted when the murderers produce obscurity of expression and ambiguity. It is flouted also when they are not brief and orderly in conversation. Maxim of relevance is flouted when the murderers are not relevant. Besides those maxims, there are also 3 couples of overlapped maxims which are flouted by the murderers. Maxim of quality and relevance are flouted when the murderers lie to the other characters and says something irrelevant. Maxims of quantity and manner are flouted when the characters say more than listeners need and, at the same time, say obscure expression, ambiguity, something not brief and orderly. Maxim of quality and quantity are flouted when the murderers lie to the other character and say more than other character needs. The data analysis’s results show that there is an implicature in each flouting of the maxim. The murderers use implicature to terrorize their victim and reveal their true purpose and identities. They also use it to hide their identity.
