The Effectiveness Of Round Table In Teaching Writing To The Eighth Grade Students Of Smp 1 Kartasura Viewed From Their Creativity (An Experimental Study)

The goals of this research are to find out: (1) whether Round Table is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing to the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014; (2) whether students having high creativity have better writing skill than the students having low creativity; and (3) whether there is an interaction between teaching techniques and creativity in teaching writing to the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014. This experimental study was conducted in SMP 1 Kartasura. The population was the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014. To select the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling. The total number of sample was 64 students. Each class consists of 32 students. From the two, one class became experimental group and another class became control group. The instruments of this research were writing test and creativity test. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, normality test, homogeneity test, ANOVA, and tuckey test. The research findings show that: (1) Round table is more effective than Guided Writing in teaching writing at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014; (2) there is no significant difference in writing between the students having high creativity and those having low creativity in the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014; and (3) there is an interaction between the teaching techniques and the levels of creativity in teaching writing in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that: Round Table is an effective teaching technique to teach writing at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kartasura in the academic year of 2013/2014. The English teachers are suggested to apply this teaching technique in order to gain the students’ writing skill. Furthermore, the teachers are suggested to be more creative and innovative in teaching, so the students will be more active and creative and they do not get much difficulty in writing.
