Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Using Word Games And Pictures (A Classroom Action Research At The Fifth Grade Of Sdn 01 Sragen In The Academic Year 2013/2014)

This Research Aims To: (1) Find Out Whether The Use Of Word Games And Pictures Improve The Students‟ Vocabulary Mastery Or Not; (2) Find Out Whether The Use Of Word Games And Pictures Can Improve The Effectiveness Of Teaching And Learning Process Or Not. The Method Used In This Research Is Classroom Action Research. The Research Was Conducted In The Fifth Grade Students Of Sd N 01 Sragen Which Cosisted Of 40 Students. There Were Two Cycles Of This Research. The Procedures Of Each Cycle Were Identifying The Problem, Planning, Implementing, Observing, Reflecting, And Revising The Plan. The Techniques For Collecting The Data Were Observation, Interview, Field Notes, Photoghraph, And Test (Pre-Test And Post-Test). The Techniques For Analyzing The Data Were Quantitative And Qualitative Technique. The Technique Used To Analyzed The Qualitative Data Using Qualitative Technique Was Interactive Model Which Consisted Of Data Reduction, Data Display, Conclusion Drawing And Verification, While To Analyze The Quantitative Data Using Quantitative Technique Was Descriptive Statistic. The Researcher Analyzed The Mean Scores Of The Test. The Tests Were Pre-Test And Post-Test. The Result Of The Research Showed That Word Games And Pictures Could Improve The Students‟S Vocabulary Mastery. They Could Remember The Words By Imagining The Object Directly. They Could Practice How To Write The Words And How To Pronounce The Words Correctly. The Improvement Of The Students‟S Vocabulary Was Reflected In The Test Scores. The Mean Score Of Pre-Test, 76.25 Improved To Be 79.30 In Cycle I And Improved To Be 81.25 In Cycle Ii. The Process Of Teaching And Learning Was More Effective By Using Word Games And Pictures. All Students Were Actively Involved In The Learning Activities. They Were Interested And Enthusiastic During The Teaching And Learning Process.
