This research aims at revealing whether: (1) Spidergram is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing, (2) students who have high creativity have better writing skill than those having low one; and (3) there is interaction between teaching techniques and students’ creativity in teaching writing. This experimental research was conducted at SMA Negeri Tegalombo Kabupaten Pacitan in the academic year of 2012/2013. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students consisting of four classes or 102 students. Two of the four classes were taken as samples by using cluster random sampling, i.e., XI-A2 as the experimental class taught by using Spidergram and XI –A1 as the control class taught by using Guided Writing. The data of the research were collected by using two kinds of tests, namely verbal creativity test and writing test. The two tests had been tried out first to know their readability before being used. The verbal creativity test was used to classify the students into two groups, i.e. the students who have high creativity and those who have low creativity. The writing test was used to know the students’ writing skill. After conducting the normality and homogeneity test, the hypothesis test was carried out. The data of the writing test were analyzed by using 2 x 2 multifactor analysis of variance or ANOVA and Tukey test. Data analysis shows that: (1) Spidergram is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing; (2) the students who have high creativity have better writing skill than those who have low creativity; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and students’ creativity in teaching writing, in which Spidergram is more effective for students having high creativity while Guided Writing is more effective for students having low one. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that Spidergram is an effective technique to teach writing and the level of creativity also influences the effectiveness of teaching techniques to teach writing to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri Tegalombo in the academic year of 2012/2013. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers use Spidergram to improve students’ writing skill. In addition, teachers are also suggested to improve students’ creativity since Spidergram is effective for students having high creativity.
