The main objective of the research is to identify whether: (1) Index Card Match Game is more
effective than Guided Writing technique to teach writing; (2) Students having high
creativity have better writing skill than the students having low creativity; and (3) There
is an interaction effect between teaching techniques and students’ creativity on the
students’ writing skill.
The experimental method was employed in this research. The population of the research was
the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Purbalingga in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The
sampling used was Cluster Random Sampling. The sample in the research was two classes
covering 32 students of X7 as the experimental class and 32 students of X9 as the control
class. The research instruments consist of creativity test and written test. Readability of
the instrument was done before the instruments were used. After treatment was given in nine
meetings, the researcher conducted a post-test to get the research data. Having got research
data, the researcher analyzed the data in terms of their frequency distribution, normality
of the data distribution, and data homogeneity. Then, the researcher used ANOVA test
(multifactor analysis of variance) and TUKEY test to analyze the data.
The summary of multifactor analysis of variance revealed that: (1) Index Card Match as a
teaching technique is more effective than Guided Writing to teach writing to the tenth grade
students of SMA N 1 Purbalingga in the Academic Year of 2012/2013; (2) The students who have
high creativity have better writing skill than students who have low creativity; and (3)
There is no interaction between the teaching techniques and the students’ creativity to
teach writing.
Finally, the result of this study implies that Index Card Match is good to be applied to
teach writing for high creativity students since it can encourage students to write actively
and freely in an enjoyable writing process. It is suggested that the teacher should be more
innovative in using the various teaching techniques. For other researchers, it is hoped that
these research findings can be used as a reference for future researches. Moreover, other
researchers may conduct researches viewed from other psychological aspects.
