Having analyzed in the novel The Custom Of The Country from the description of American condition in industrial era, there are some impacts of industrial revolution toward American society. Industrialization has increased American welfare, along with the increase of income; their lifestyle also changed. They became more consumptive. The rich lived extravagantly. American philosophies were also changed. American people became materialistic and individualistic people. Old values seem outmoded with the development of the country, so they started to leave their moral and spiritual belief. These factors that lead women especially upper class women began to ignore their roles in family. They were busy with their self-interest.
