This Research Is Aimed To Reveal How Oprah Magazine Challenges The Beauty Myth In America, How Oprah Magazine Supports The Big Women In America To Get Their Confidence. Furthermore, It Is Also Conducted To Identify How Oprah Magazine Campaigns The Idea Of “Big Is Beautiful” In Media Industry Through The Phenomena In American Society That Occur In These Magazine .
This Research Is Descriptive Qualitative Research Taking Three Articles In Oprah Magazine Entitled “A Weight Of Your Mind”, “It’s Not About A Weight...”, And “Oprah Talks To Dr. Oz” As The Source Of Data. The Primary Data Are Words, Phrases, Sentences, And Expressions, That Are Supported By Secondary Data Included Various Sources Such As Library Books And Journal About Women And Media, Web Of Oprah Magazine, And Other Online Articles. This Research Is Conducted Under American Studies Framework. As Consequences, It Employs Interdisciplinary Study That Needs Several Theories And Approaches Such As Semiotics, Post Structuralism, Gender Perspective And Socio Cultural Approach.
The Result Shows That Oprah Magazine Really Supports That The Natural Body Is Something Appreciative. In Fact, Based On Analysis, Oprah Magazine Supports In Rejecting Diet As The Way To Lose Weight To Get Women Dream Body. Health Is More Important Than Their Desire To Get Thin Body.
