Teaching Vocabulary by Using Games And Pictures to The Fourth Grade Students of SD Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta

This final project report was written based on the internship job in SD Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta. The objectives were to describe the process of teaching vocabulary by using games and pictures to the fourth grade students of sd muhammadiyah 8 surakarta, to investigate the problems, to find out the solution of the problems, and to find out the result of teaching vocabulary by using games and pictures. The processes of teaching vocabulary in SD Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta consist of six sessions. They are greeting, warming up, presentation, practicing, checking, and closing. The activity in presentation session used pictures to explain the material. The activity in practicing session used games and pictures to practice the material which had been learned in the previous session. Meanwhile, the activity in checking session used oral and written assessment to measure how far the students understood the materials. There were some problems encountered during the teaching and learning activities. The problems were less discipline, managing classes, having mispronunciation and difficulty in memorizing the words. To handle those problems, there were some solutions to solve it. The solution were giving punishment to solve less discipline, doing repetition and singing to solve having mispronunciation and difficulty in memorizing the words, giving reward and using noise maker to solve managing class’ problem. Based on the experience, there were also presented the result of teaching vocabulary by using games and pictures. I compared the result of students’ learning activity by using “teacher-centered learning method” and “games and pictures”. As the result, the score of students’ learning activity by using “games and pictures” were higher than the the score of students’ learning activity by using “teacher-centered learning method”.
