Improving The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Using Snakes-And-Ladders Game (A Classroom Action Research At The Fifth Grade Of Sd Negeri 03 Karangmojo In The Academic Year Of 2013/2014)

The Objectives Of The Research Are: (1) To Find Out Whether “Snakes-Andladders”
Game Can Improve The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery At The Fifth Grade Of
Sd Negeri 03 Karangmojo And (2) To Describe The Class Atmosphere When The
“Snakes-And-Ladders” Game Is Implemented In The Class.
Classroom Action Research Was Used In The Research. The Action Research
Was Conducted From June 26th 2014 To July 21st 2014 And Carried Out In Two
Cycles; Each Cycle Consisted Of Three Meetings. There Were Two Kinds Of Data That
The Researcher Collected, I.E. Qualitative And Quantitative Data. To Collect The
Qualitative Data, The Researcher Used Observations, Interview, Documents Analysis,
And Photographs. In Collecting The Quantitative Data, The Researcher Used Two Tests,
The Pre-Test And Post-Test. Both The Qualitative And Quantitative Data Were Analyzed
To Answer The Research Problems Stated Above.
The Result Of The Research Showed That The Use Of “Snakes-And-Ladders”
Game Could Improve The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery And The Class Atmosphere.
The Improvement Of Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Included: (1) Understanding The
Meaning Of Words; (2) Pronouncing The Words Correctly; (3) Spelling The
Vocabulary Correctly; (4) And Using The Words In Appropriate Context Of Situation.
The Improvement Of Class Climate Included: (1) Students’ Interest Toward The
Material Increased; (2) Students Were Active During The Lesson And (3) The Students
Could Work In Group And Individually. The Students’ Mean Scores Improved And
Could Be Seen From Their Mean Score Of Pre-Test (59.2), Post-Test 1 In Cycle 1
(69.1), And Also Post-Test 2 In Cycle 2 (77.6). The Score In Post-Test 2 Showed That
The Score Was Higher Than Kkm (70.0).
Based On This Research, It Can Be Concluded That The Use Of “Snakes-Andladders”
Game Can Improve The Students’ Vocabulary Mastery And The Class
Atmosphere. Therefore, The Researcher Expects That “Snakes-And-Ladders” Game Can
Be Implemented And Used In Other Classes.
