A Translation Analysis Of Imperative Sentences And Quality Level In The Movie Avatar: The Last Airbender (A Politenessapproach)

This Research Focuses On The Analysis Of The Translation Of Imperative Sentences In The Movie Avatar: The Last Airbender Into Indonesian In Pengendaliudara Yang Terakhir. The Objectives Of The Research Are (1) To Find Out The Techniques That Are Used By The Translator In Translating Imperative Sentences, (2) To Examine The Accuracy Level Of Imperative Sentences, (3) To Assess The Acceptability And Readability Level Of Imperative Sentences. This Research Is Descriptive Qualitative. A Purposive Sampling Technique Was Employed In This Research. The Data Are All Imperative Sentences In The Movie Entitled Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Other Data Are Taken From The Questionnaires Assessed By Three Raters And Five Respondents. The Total Data Of Imperative Sentences In The Movie Are 81 Data. The Analysis On The Translation Techniques Shows That There Are Eight Techniques Found In The Movie Avatar: The Last Airbender. They Are Literal (54 Data Or 66.7 %), Modulation (5 Data Or 6.2%), Compensation (5 Data Or 6.2%), Particularization (5 Data Or 6.2%), Establish Equivalent (5 Data Or 6.2%), Generalization (2 Data Or 2.4%), Linguistic Amplification (1 Data Or 1.2%), And Linguistic Compression (5 Data Or 6.2 %). Regarding The Politeness Strategies Appear On The Research, The Most Strategy Used Is Bald On-Record Strategy That Is 63 Data (77.8%). Those Data Are Divided Into Three Form Of Bald On Record. They Are Task-Oriented, Little Or No Desire To Maintain Someone’s Face And Urgency Or Desperation. Only 12 Numbers Of Data (14.8%) Out Of Total 81 Data Use The Other Politeness Strategies Such As Positive Politeness Strategy And The Rest Of The Data (6 Data Or 7.4%) Use Negative Politeness Strategy The Analysis On The Translation Accuracy Shows That There Are 53 Data (65.4%) That Is Considered As Accurate Data, 28 Data (34.5%) Belong Into Less Accurate And No Data That Can Be Classified As Inaccurate. The Analysis On Translation Acceptability Shows That From The Total Data, 67 Data (82.7%) Are Acceptable, 14 Data (17.2%) Are Less Acceptable And No Datum Is Unacceptable. The Data Analysis On Translation Readability Shows That 37 Data (45.6%) Are Readable, 42 Data (51.8%) Are Less Acceptable, And Only One Data (1.2%) Considered As Unreadable
