This thesis is written to discuss about the lexicogrammatical quality performed by 10 (ten) students who took English course in LBPP LIA Surakarta. The research was conducted to find out the participants’ English grammatical and lexical quality, and the factors affected their performance.
This research adopts qualitative research design in which a case study was conducted to gain the data. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants. The data were gained from the participants’ conversation transcripts of their English story telling based on a wordless book entitled Frog, Where Are You by Mercer Meyer. The data are analyzed using sentence structure analysis and lexical selection. The findings are used to find out the factors which affect the participants’ lexicogrammatical quality using second language acquisition approach.
The result of the analysis shows that the participants did not perform the English grammar very well even though they perform quite good lexical selection. Several factors affecting second language acquisition such as psychology, social, and critical age factor are found affecting the participants in performing their English lexicogrammatical quality.
