ABSTRACT

The aims of the research are to investigate: (1) The difference between the effect of massed practice approach and distributed practice approach to the field tennis groundstroke backhand study result, (2) The difference effect of field tennis groundstroke backhand study result between students with high motor ability and students with low motor ability, (3) The interaction effect between the learning approaches and base movement ability to the field tennis groundstroke backhand study result.
Experimental method using factorial 2 x 2 design was used for undertaking research. The populations of this research are 58 boys, students training of UTP Surakarta. The samples used in this research are 40 students taken with purposive random sampling technique. The research instruments are consists of: 1) General motor ability test, 2) field tennis groundstroke backhand test. The research uses two line anava analysis data technique with significance standard  = 0,05.
The conclusions of the research are: (1) There is difference between the effect of massed practice and distributed practice approaches to the field tennis groundstroke forehand ability of UTP Surakarta boy students (Fo = 4,78 > Ft = 4,11), (2) There is difference effect between high motor ability and low motor ability to the field tennis groundstroke backhand ability of UTP Surakarta boy students with (Fo = 6,17 > Ft = 4,11), and (3) There is interaction effect between the learning approaches and motor ability to the field tennis groundstroke backhand ability of UTP Surakarta boy students (Fo = 10,09 > Ft = 4,11), where the massed practice learning approach is more effective when it is applied on the learning process of students with high motor ability, while distributed practice learning approach is more effective when is applied on the learning process of students with low motor ability.
