The population of the research is all the tenth grade students of Computer and Network Engineering of SMK Negeri 2 Sampit,. Two classes were taken by using cluster random sampling. The class X TKJ 2 was used as the experimental class and class X TKJ 1 as the control class. Each of classes consists of 32 students. In collecting the data, several steps were applied: (1) giving creativity test to know student’s level of creativity; (2) teaching the students; (3) carrying out post-test; and (4) analyzing the students’ speaking skill. The result of the research finding leads to the conclusions that: (1) the students who are taught using Pair Recording method have better speaking skill than students taught by using Direct Instruction Method.; (2) the students who have high creativity have better speaking skill than those who have low creativity; and (3) There is interaction between teaching methods and students’ creativity in teaching speaking.
For enriching students’ speaking skill, it is recommended for English teachers to apply Pair Recording Method in speaking class. In addition, teachers are suggested to consider students’ level of creativity when they apply teaching materials in speaking class. For other researchers, it is hoped that these research findings can be used as a reference for future researches.
