Abstrak


The Use of Video Voice Command (VVC) Multimedia to Enhance Students’ Reading Skill in Curriculum 2013

The objectives of this research are: (1) to find whether Video Voice Command (VVC)  multimedia can improve students’ reading skill, and (2) to describe the class situation when the Video Voice Command (VVC)  multimedia   is used in the  teaching and learning process of reading skill in the class.

The subject of the research was the first grade of SMK N 1 Kasiman, Bojonegoro in the academic year of 2014/2015. This was conducted in two cycles: the first cycle consisted of three meetings, and so was the second cycle. The procedures of the research consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. To collect the data, some instruments namely: tests, questionnaire, interview, and class observation were used. To analyze the quantitative data which were taken from the result of students’ score, the researcher applied a descriptive statictics to know their enhancement in reading. Meanwhile, the researcher employed three action steps of data analysis: (1) reducing the data, (2) presenting the data, and (3) making the conclusion to analyze the qualitative data. The result of the research shows that (1) the Video Voice Command (VVC) multimedia could enhance students’ reading skill in term of raising students’ achievement in the case of finding out (a) explicit information, (b) reference of pronouns, (c) communicative purpose of the author, (d) words’ meaning, (e) main idea in the paragraph, and (f) implicit information in the text; (2) the Video Voice Command (VVC) multimedia could enhance class situation, in term of (a) the students’ attention that makes them concentrate on the lesson, (b) their  participation and interaction when having and responding teacher’s questions, (c) the motivation to join the teaching and learning process in the class.

The research comes to the conclusion that there is a good improvement of the students in reading skill using the Video Voice Command (VVC) multimedia. Therefore, the multimedia can improve the students’ reading skill in comprehending English texts. Based on the result of the research, it is recommended that the teachers and the students should use the interactive reading multimedia as one of good alternative multimedia in teaching reading in the class.
