The influence of striving for superiority towards okonkwo’s life in achebe’s “ things fall apart ” (Individual Psychological Approach)

ABSTRACT
This research focuses on the influence of striving for superiority. The researcher uses the library method in collecting the data and descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data.
In order to achieve the goals of the research, the researcher conducts the analysis using the Individual Psychological Approach especially Adler’s theories of motivation and six basic concepts of personality. The researcher uses Adler’s theories of motivation and six basic concepts of personality because the analysis is focused on the psychological aspect of the character especially the personality of the character. The source of the data in this research is Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. The main data of this research are the dialogues, words, and sentences of Things Fall Apart. The supporting data consists of the criticism of the novel and other information about Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. The sources of the supporting data are taken from the books, which are closely related to the problems that are going to be analyzed, comments to the novels, and from the internet.
Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that inferiority feelings create the striving for superiority or the superiority feeling. Later, the superiority feeling determines Okonkwo’s next life. It leads Okonkwo into his success in life. It also leads Okonkwo into his tragic of life.
