This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The main source of data is movie. It focuses on Snow White character in movie Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) to find out the transformation of Snow White’s gender role in the movie Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) from the classical princess (powerless) into a warrior princess (powerful).
This research is conducted under American Studies framework. American studies need interdisciplinary approach to signify the issue. It incorporates fairy tale, feminism, history and social cultural approach, and semiotic approach in answering the research question.
The results of the transformation of Snow White’s gender role in movie Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) are leadership, bravery, and independence. The transformation reflects the influence of feminism waves in American. Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) movie is a product of popular culture which becomes the reflection of the social condition of American society.
