Improving Students’ Listening Skills Through Animated Video (An Action Research at the Second Grade of SMP N 1 Gemawang in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

Abstrak

This thesis is written to (1) describe whether or not Animated video can improve students’ listening skill; and (2) identify what happens when Animated video is implemented in the listening class. The method used in this research was an action research. The research was conducted at the second grade of a junior high school in Temanggung in academic year of 2016/2017. The data were collected by observing, interviewing, surveying through questionnaire, and assessing through test.
The research findings show that Animated video could improve: (1) students’ listening skill (2) classroom situation. Related to the improvement of (1), it includes: (a) the students could determine the main idea (b) the students could determine the specific information (c) the students could summarize the material, and (d) the students could utilize the background knowledge on the text. Concerning on the improvement of (2), it comprises: (a) the students did not grumble when they were asked to do listening (b) the students paid more attention to the lesson (c) they were more active in the listening class, and (d) it was easier for them to retell what they had listened.
