A Study on Student’s Self-Esteem, Vocabulary Mastery, and Writing Skill. A Correlational Study on Second Semester Student of English Department at Sebelas Maret University Academic year 2016/2017

Abstrak

The objectives of this study are (1) to identify whether there is correlation between Students’ self-esteem and writing skill; (2) to identify whether there is correlation between Students’ vocabulary mastery  and   writing   skill;   (3)  to   identify  whether  there  is correlation between students’ self-esteem, vocabulary mastery; and writing skill. The study used correlational method and was conducted to 35 second semester students of a University in Surakarta who were chosen by using cluster random sampling. In collecting the data, the writer used test: self-esteem test, vocabulary mastery test, and writing skill test. The research findings show that (1) There is positive correlation between students’ self-esteem and writing skill (rx1y is 0.87); (2) There is positive correlation between student’ vocabulary mastery and student writing skill (rx2y is 0.948) ;  (3)  there  is  positive  correlation  between  student’  self-esteem, vocabulary  mastery  simultaneously,  with  writing  skill  (rx12y  is 0.928).
