Abstrak
This research aims to identify and describe the techniques applied in
translating design terms and the impact of the translation technique towards translation quality in the aspect of accuracy and acceptability from a magazine entitled Babyboss “Vol01Edisi01’2008”.
This research is descriptive qualitative research. The sources of data for this research are a magazine entitled Babyboss “Vol01Edisi01’2008” and three informants. Data analyzed in this research are technique applied in translating design terms found in the magazine and information about translation quality which are gathered from the raters. Method of data collection applied in this research consists of content analysis, questionnaire and deep interview. The sampling technique applied in this research is purposive sampling.
The result of the research shows that there are 6 single techniques and 10 multiple techniques in translating design terms in the magazine entitled Babyboss “Vol01Edisi01’2008”, there are 1) Borrowing 59 data/50%, 2) Established Equivalent 25 data/21.18%, 3) Generalization 5 data/ 4.23%, 4) Reduction 1 data/0.84%, 5) Amplification 1 data/0.84%, 6) Particularization 1 data/0.84%, 7) Established Equivalent + Borrowing 11 data/9.32%, 8) Established Equivalent + Particularization 2 data/1.69%, 9) Established Equivalent + Reduction 1 data/0.84%,
10) Amplification + Generalization 1 data/0.84%, 11) Amplification + Borrowing 4 data/3.38%, 12) Borrowing + Generalization 3 data/2.54%, 13) Established Equivalent + Generalization + Amplification 1 data/0.84%, 14) Established Equivalent + Borrowing + Reduction 1 data/0.84%, 15) Reduction + Amplification + Generalization 1 data/0.84%, 16) Amplification + Borrowing + Transposition 1 data/0.84%.
Techniques applied in translating design terms in the magazine entitled
Babyboss “Vol01Edisi01’2008” produced accurate and acceptable translation.
