ABSTRACK
This research discusses the use of pictures as media of teaching descriptive text using scientific approach in SMPN 1 Sukoharjo. The research uses qualitative approach in the form of case study. The subject of this research is the second semester, seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Sukoharjo academic year 2014/2015. This research focuses on how is the use of pictures as media of teaching descriptive text in using scientific approach procedure and what is the problem faced by the teacher in using picture as media of teaching descriptive text using scientific approach. The data were collected through observations and interview.
The result of the research reveals two major findings which consist of: (1) the description of the use of pictures as media of teaching descriptive text in using scientific approach procedure and (2) the problem faced by the teacher in the use of pictures as media in teaching descriptive text in using scientific approach procedure.
Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that to use picture as media of teaching descriptive text, the role of teacher and students are needed to know the students understanding and the problem faced by the teacher in teaching learning process. The use of pictures as media provides learning opportunities for the students to stimulate and motivate students understanding in describing object. Besides, scientific approach is used to make the teaching learning process easier for the teacher.
