Improving Speaking Skill Through Audiolingual Method by Using Youtube Videos (A Classroom Action Research in the Twelfth Grade Students of SMA N 2 Magetan in the Academic Year 2011/2012)

The objectives of the research are: (I) to describe whether implementing Audio-lingual Method by using YouTube videos improve speaking skill; and (2) to describe the situation in the classroom when Audio-lingual Method and YouTube videos are implemented in speaking class.
This thesis is written to identify the improvement of students' speaking skills. The research was carried out at SMA N 2 Magetan. It was conducted from September up to October in 2011. The subject of the research was the students of class XII IPA I of SMA N 2 Magetan in the academic year of 2011/2012. The research method was Collaborative Action Research between the senior high school English Teacher (Teacher N) and the researcher and it was conducted in 2 cycles. In collecting the data, she used interviews, observation, and test. Photographs are also taken during the implementation of the research to provide more accurate data. Having collected the data, she analyzed both the quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were analyzed by descriptive statistic to calculate the mean scores of pre-test, post-test I, and post-test 2, while the qualitative data were analyzed by using Burns' technique: assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data, building interpretation, and reporting the outcomes.
The research findings show audio-lingual method by using YouTube videos can improve: (1) The students' speaking skill: (a) the students could pronounce some English words correctly; (b) they could use appropriate vocabularies; (c) they could use correct grammar; (d) they could express their idea based in content; (e) they could express their idea fluently. As a proof, there was improvement in the achievement of students' speaking test. The mean score of pre-test and post-test improved. In the pre-test the students got 5 .11, in post-test 1 they got 6.30 and in post test 2 they got 7.08 in average, while students are required to pass the KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum) of that school that is 7.00. (2) Besides the classroom situation also improves, such as: (a) the students focused on the material given by the teacher; (b) the students were active in joining speaking class; (c) the students learned to retell their opinions in front of class; (d) they knew what they had to do when teacher asked them; (e) the speaking class was more alive and interesting. It can be concluded that speaking class is more effective when the teacher implemented audio-lingual method by using YouTube videos as method and authentic materials.
