The Effectiveness Of Number Heads Together Technique On Students Reading Ability

ABSTRAK

The purpose of this research is:
(1 )to find out whether there is a significant difference in reading ability between students that are taught using number head together and students that are taught using guided reading; and (2) to find out whether number head togethe method is more effective than guided reading method to teach reading. The research was carried out at SDN 01 Sroyo in the academic year of 2016/2017. The population of the research is the second
grade students of SDN 01 Sroyo. The samples are class VI A which was selected as the experimental class which consists of 30 students and class VI B was selected as the control class which consists of 30 students. The research instrument that is used to collect the data in this research is test. The researcer used t-test formula to analyze the data. The result of computation of the t-test indicates that t observation (to)= 2.2093 is higher than t table (58, 0.05) = 2.0017.
It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in reading skill between the students that are taught using number head together and the students that are taught using guided reading. The mean score of the experimental group is 71.90,while the mean score of control group is 68.66. As a result, it can be concluded that number head together is more effective than guided reading to teach reading.
