The Use Of Blog In The Teaching Of Writing: Students’ Perspective (A Case Study At English Education Department Of Teacher Training And Education Faculty Of Sebelas Maret University In The Academic Year Of 2017/2018)

This research aims to describe students’ perceptions toward the use of blog in the teaching of writing and find out how effective blog is to their writing. It also aims to find out the reason lecturer incorporates blog in teaching writing. The subject of this research were five students of English Education Department in the academic year of 2017/2018 and an English language lecturer in Sebelas Maret University.
The research design is descriptive case study. The research data was collected through observation in the classroom, the interviews with the teacher and five students of English Education Department, and document analysis. The observations and interviews had been conducted on March until May 2018. The researcher used triangulation of data sources, method and theories to check the trustworthiness of data collected.
The result indicated that students had a mixed perception toward the use of blog in the teaching of writing. Majority of the students had a positive perception toward the use of blog. However, there were students who responded to the use of blog negatively. Students perceived blog as a useful tool to promote their writing. The findings revealed blog has the potential for literacy advance. Through blogging, students admitted that theybecame accustomed to the habit of reading and writing in which they also obtain new knowledge.Majority of students perceived that blog contributed to the improvement of their writing. The conclusions of this study were consistent with previous findings on the practicality and potential of using blog to promote writing.
