The goals of the research are: 1) to find out and to describe how far the use of Jigsaw Technique improves the students’ reading comprehension, and 2) to describe the classroom situation when Jigsaw Technique is implemented in reading class.
This reasearch is a class action research. This action research study is conducted to improve students’ reading comprehension on narrartive text by using jigsaw. The data of the research are observation notes, interview, and test. The research consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection.
The results of the research are: 1) The jigsaw technique could improve students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text in terms of : (a) Identifying the main idea (b) Finding out the supporting ideas of the text. (c) Finding the meaning of words in the text (c) Explaining the communicative purpose of the text (d) Identifying the generic structure of the descriptive text. While the test scores are pre-test 59.6, post-test1 65, and post-test2 71.5. 2) There were improvements of class situation: (a) Students’ enthusiasm and motivation increased in learning activity (b) Students tended to be active learner (c) Students braver to ask and asnwer question.
