The Effectiveness of Australian Parliamentary Debate to Teach Speaking Viewed from Students’ Self Esteem (An Experimental Research at Tenth Grade of SMKN 3 Jepara in the Academic Year of 2012/2013)

The objectives of the reasearch are to figure out: (1) whether Australian Parliamentary Debateis more effective than Three-Step Interview to teach speaking in the Tenth Grade of SMKN 3 Jepara in the Academic Year of 2012/2013, (2 ) whether students with high self-esteem have better speaking skill compared to those who have low self-esteem , and(3) the interaction between the teaching techniques and the students’ self-esteem
The experiment research was conducted in  SMKN 3 Jepara. The population selected is the Tenth Grade of XI SMKN 3 Jepara in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The research findings are: (1) Australian Parliamentary Debateis more effective to teach speaking (2) Students who have high self-esteem have better speaking skill than those have low self-esteem (3) There is interaction between the teaching method and the speaking skill. 
Based on the research it is concluded that the Australian Parliamentray Debate is an effective technique to teach speaking. Hence, teachers are suggested to propose the Australian Parliamentray Debate as one of the teaching technique alternatives.
