ABSTRACT

This study aims to describe participation of society in waste management independently conducted by KSM Makaryo Utomo in Kalisoro Village Tawangmangu Subdistrict. The analysis on the process of participation of society and achievement of the level of participation in waste management.

This research uses descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques in this study were conducted by in-depth interviews and reviewing documents. Selection of informants is determined by purposive sampling technique. While the data validity test used by the authors in this study is data triangulation and for data analysis techniques the authors use interactive data analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that waste management is independent with society involvement in Kalisoro village which is managed by KSM Makaryo Utomo. Participation of society in waste management by KSM Makaryo Utomo can be identified by analyzing the process of participation and participation level of the society. The process of participation stages consists of stages in decision making, stages of participation in the implementation of activities, participation in the utilization of development results, participation in monitoring and evaluation of development. From the stage of society participation can be known type of society participation. In the process of this stage of participation of society not all citizen directly involved, but represented to LPP (Lembaga Persatuan Pemuda) and BaitulMal in the implementation of waste management. While the level of achievement of society participation in the management of independent garbage can be seen using the theory of the concept of eight steps of participation by Arnstein. From the analysis can be known factors that support and inhibit public participation in waste management independently
