A Test Item Analysis of English Final Test For The First Grade of Senior High School in Surakarta in The Academic Year Of 2017/2018 (Statistical Descriptive Study at SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta)

This research is intended to find out whether the multiple-choice items of English final test for the first grade students of senior high school student in Surakarta have fulfilled the criteria of a good and appropriate test item viewed from the effectiveness of the distractor of the test item, item difficulty, discriminating power, validity, and reliability.
The study focuses on the description of the test items’ appropriateness based on the quantitative data. Quantitative approach is used for identifying the level difficulty, the discriminating power, the effectiveness of distractor, the validity, and the reliability of English final test item for first grade of SMAN 5 Surakarta in the Academic Year of 2017/2018. The technique of collecting data is documentary. The data were taken from 100 students’ answer sheet from four classes and the test items.
The research finding shows that (1) the proportion of the difficulty level shows the percentage of 13% for very difficult item, 40% for satisfactory item, and 47% for very easy item;
(2)    53% of all test items which have appropriate index of discriminating power; (3) 58% of the distractors are effective; (4)viewed from the validity aspect; the means of internal validity has 83% valid items and the results of external validity is 0.66 means that the validity of the test item is pretty high; (5) viewed from reliability aspect, this test item is reliable since the result is 0.65.
